Welcome to Picture Positive, a project brought to you by Brighter Futures Yorkshire CIO and North Yorkshire Council over the summer of 2023.  

 

For many years, Robert Bennett, Chair of Brighter Futures Yorkshire CIO had held an ambition to support a community project exploring Selby from a wellbeing perspective. His aspiration was to give Selby residents across all ages an opportunity to explore their hometown and identify within it places that were important to them, places that they knew they could go to to nurture their wellbeing.

 

This would involve looking at Selby from a different perspective, asking participants about places that help them to feel positive and exploring what it is about these places that generates these good feelings. This Zine and the accompanying public exhibitions were the result of that project.  

 

It is hoped that through these products, we will encourage you as well as other residents of Selby to experience your local environment through this wellbeing perspective and to consider where you go to draw strength and emotional nourishment. By engaging in this process and raising your awareness you will be more invested in and seek to nurture these locations. You will also, with practice build space within your imagination that will help you to access these places and benefiti from many of their wellbeing effects wherever you are.
